Freaking Permissions!

A silver key against a black backdrop

I consider myself pretty well organized. I have systems and I stick to them. So why then, did I find myself scrambling when I discovered that I’d accidentally put my family’s vacation details in my Trip Planner template that was available for purchase by anyone on the internet? The simple answer: mistakes happen.

Yes, the template which was tucked away in a Google Drive folder named “PUBLISHED - DO NOT TOUCH” was somehow touched. By me! 😳 What’s more, I didn’t realize my error for weeks. I blissfully added my family vacation to-do list items, packing list details, rough itinerary, and more to the spreadsheet - I even renamed it - all without realizing I was over-writing my clean, available-for-purchase Trip Planner template.

To my relief, no one had intercepted my family vacation plans. The last purchase of the template was several days before I started making my rogue changes. To my greater relief, I had never put any sensitive information into the Trip Planner to begin with - so even if someone on the internet had been watching my every edit, there wouldn’t have been much they could do with the information.

But let my cautionary tale remind you to be VIGILANT with your permissions on any software or digital tool. If you’re not familiar with how permissions work on a program you’re using, stop and look it up! It will be time well spent to know that you’re not accidentally making something publicly available when it shouldn’t be. 😅
